Njideja Momah had it right, but at first I couldn't find.More tools., as I was looking in the Chrome bar at the top of my screen (Mac Mini). Hint: it's in the upper righthand corner of the Gmail screen; triple vertical dots. And then it works just like Njideja said.

Mail User Guide
Use the Mail app to send, receive, and manage email for all of your email accounts in one location. Simply add the accounts—such as iCloud, Exchange, Google, school, work, or other—you want to use in Mail.
Add an email account
Temporarily stop using an email account
To use the account again with Mail, select the Mail checkbox; the account’s messages are shown again (they don’t need to be downloaded from the server again).
Add Gmail To My DesktopRemove an email account
When you remove an email account from Mail, the account’s messages are deleted and no longer available on your Mac. Copies of messages remain on the account’s mail server and are still available (from webmail, for example).
Important: If you’re unsure whether messages you want to keep are still on the mail server, move or copy them to a mailbox stored on your Mac (the mailbox appears in the On My Mac section in the Mail sidebar) before you delete the account in Mail.

I've been using gmail as my main email account for almost ten years and I would highly recommend this app. I've has no issues and problems, unlike with previous services. The best on the market!
Fairly good
App looks just looks like Gmail, it doesn't add any toolbar or status bar of any kind. whic is great. Until Goggle offers a web app that can be detached from the main Chrome windows in the MacOS dock, this should be my go to Gmail app
To improve: - the colour of the app icon. Badges for unread email count in dock icons are red in MacOS. Mail for Gmail's icon is red. Red on red makes reading a little harder. You can get around this by changing the dock icon manually (Applications>Mail for Gmail>right click>get info>drop newly downloaded icon on top of the left top icon) - emails appear in app at least 5 seconds after notification is received, the email is not there when I check the app, I have to wait a few seconds to see it appear. It is a litte frustrating after a while. - the title bar: if you set up your MacOS windows to be minimized when you double click the title bar, this doesn't work with Mail for Gmail Great but with 1 major flaw
Works really well, interface same a Gmail Online - the only issue I have which is quite major really - non of the links work inside the emails, so clicking a link will only bring up a new browser window. you then have to manually copy the link & paste into address Bar.
Fingers Crossed the Developers get this sorted & offer an update. Information
